Princeton University

Steeped in money and tradition, it was the perfect refuge from the Great Depression that engulfed not only the United States but the entire Western world. While Harvard and MIT were the centers of American science, Princeton above all others attracted European thinkers, including the mathematicians Kurt Godel, John von Neumann, and physicists such as Einstein and Fermi.
