A test whether a computer, in a controlled conversation, can convince a person that it, too, is human; if it can, then we should consider it to be, in some real sense, capable of thought.

In Computing Machinery and Intelligence Alan Turing maintained that the question of computer intelligence is poorly framed, as no clear definition of intelligence or thought can be formed. Rather, the Turing Test should be used to test for functional intelligence.
